If you spend any time on Instagram, then you know that denim with peal appliqué has been ALL the rage! I have found myself countless times with my mouse hovering over the ‘checkout’ button of websites, debating if I wanted to buy into this trend! It wasn’t that I did not like, because I LOVE it, the problem I had with it was that all of the pearl decorated things I liked were so over priced! I could not comprehend spending $300+ on something that was so funky and couldn’t be worn often!
All of my inner pearl conflict was solved when I realized I could do it myself!! I took a denim jacket that I already had and transformed it into a masterpiece, if I do say so myself!
What you’ll need: The item you want to decorate (obvi lol), pearl beads, floral appliqué (optional), needle & thread, hot glue. You can shop the exact items I used below!
I decided I wanted to go for a more sporadic clustered look, so that is exactly what I did!
How to do it: I am sure there are many ways you can accomplish this pearl appliqué look, but here is how I did it: First, I hot glued down the flowers, then I hand sewed the beads randomly where I wanted them. After I was happy with the way it looked, I took the hot glue gun again and reinforced the already stitched on beads to make sure they were really secure!
I really recommend sewing on the pearls before gluing them because it makes it so easy to move them if you are unhappy with where they are! Its much easier to deal with initially rather than the glue!
How I made the pearl leaves of the flowers: I strung about 10 smaller pearls on the thread, and secured both ends at the base of the flower, then I made a small stitch to create where I wanted the point of the leaf to be! So easy!
These instructions are rather simple because how you want it to look is totally up to you! I have really been enjoying DIY projects lately! Pleased let me know if you have any questions, and I would love to see your denim makeovers if you decide to do this!!
How I styled it:
