With autumn here and winter approaching, it’s safe to say that our beloved summer tans are long gone. Being the sun worshiper that I am, I have no shame in admitting that I do whatever possible to keep my summer glow illuminated 365 days a year. Embarrassingly enough, I have fallen for Jergen’s Natural Glow Moisturizer and ended up being not only orange, but oily, thus the Greasy Cheeto concept. At home self tanners are often unnatural looking and HEAVY, which is just not cute. If your goal is Malibu Barbie in March, using a tanner like this will only give you an artificial orange tint and create an impenetrable blockade inside your pores. Being that none of that is positive, I have tested many products in hopes of eliminating the Greasy Cheeto look. After many orange outcomes, I finally came across Body Drench’s Quick Tan Gradual Self Tanning Lotion. The key word here is GRADUAL! Meaning that it doesn’t just attack your skin with an artificial orange coloring, it hydrates while slowly darkening your complexion.
I recommend exfoliating before (which is the golden rule in all at home tanning), and applying a few layers periodically until your desired color is achieved. The color takes a few hours to oxidize and become visible but is very reliable and natural looking! The consistency of the product is also much lighter than others which is very beneficial in eliminating the oily concerns. I personally only use this lotion from the neck down because I tend to have an abundance of oil in my t-zone, so I the last thing I need is excess emollient weight on my face.
When it comes to tanning my face, I often use Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion for Face by So Bronze. This product is even lighter than Body Drench’s Quick Tan Gradual Self Tanning Lotion AND is formulated specifically for faces. I apply it right after my regular moisturizer just before applying my makeup. Not only is this product anything but orangey, its smooth and even has a bit of a SHIMMER in it, and who wouldn’t want that:)! But for the glitter haters out there, they do make a matte version of this lotion.
A little goes a long way with this product, so I recommend using just a pea size on your cheeks and avoiding the creases (around your nose) of your face. Buildup of product in your creases can result in looking overly bronzed and muddy. On the days that I do not feel like artificially tanning my face along with my body, because it can still cause break outs, I simply use a darker foundation and blend it into my neck to match the darker coloring of my body.
Now that you know how to maintain your summer coloring, I bet you’re wondering how to beat winter dryness as well. In the winter, my skin still produces lots of oil mainly in my t zone; which is very unfair to the rest of my face that is left cracked and dry if not properly cared for.
The only moisturizer that has stuck by my side over the years and kept me hydrated all day is CeraVe’s Renewing SA Lotion, which is formulated to obviously eliminate dryness AND roughness which is tremendously beneficial in the winter. I apply two coats of this before applying my makeup and I avoid my t-zone, being that it does not need any extra hydration. In the past I have used other moisturizers that have left my skin too dry to even apply any makeup, and what’s the fun in that? So if you have that same problem in the winter, this is really the moisturizer for you.
For those of you that really DO THE DEW, like me:) Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer Oil is essential. About two weeks ago, I purchased this oil and began mixing it into my Makeup
Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation (which has not only gotten the stamp of approval by Allure magazine, but by ME). Since I started using it strangers on campus have been coming up to me asking what brand of makeup I use AND my best friend, Semra even told me that my face was “glowing from within!” last time we saw each other. NEEDLESS to say, if you wanna glow from within, this oil primer is a MUST HAVE!
Introducing even just ONE of these products into your routine will tremendously brighten your skin and help you in fighting the drab winter skin.
I hope you enjoyed these suggestions 🙂
